4. River, Genal Valley . . . Malaga

Okay, cheating here, because the Genal runs through Malaga . . . but it’s just off the edge of Cadiz province. There are many favoured stretches, but one popular river walk – or rather river wade – starts from the bridge in the cleft between Genalguacil and Algotocín. Those not afraid of icy water and nibbling fish can push on upriver to a lovely gorge lined by hot flat rocks, with immensely swim-able pools and burbling shallows. Take your picnic on a lilo, and bring all your rubbish back. Parking available at the friendly bar for patrons.
