Towns and villages turn into beach without making a big song and dance about it. Walk down to the end of a shopping street, and there’s the sea; Eat fish, and there’s the sea; Sort out your car tax in Cadiz, load up with plants at a vivero in Conil, enjoy live music into the early hours in Tarifa . . . and there’s the sea. Throughout the summer especially, the beaches are an urban playground, the place for barbecues, films and, in Sanlucar, horse races.
